So, what are we about?
In 2018, Hackensack Crew was started by our founder, Keira Gotrell, as a way to spread rowing and the opportunities it brings to the community she grew up in. As someone who had been rowing since she was ten years old, Gotrell had become devoted to the sport and made it her mission to try and grow the sport as much as she could. After arduous months of meetings and paperwork, Hackensack Crew was started in the spring of 2018 with the help of A.D. David Petrella and Coach Clemens Reinke. The team, with just two members, Gotrell & Sophia Montany, went on to win numerous races that first season including the Garden State Scholastic Championships, giving them a bid to the SRAA Nationals.

Hackensack Crew has grown exponentially since its founding, now moving into middle school rowing as well, and our mission still remains the same - to expose the sport of rowing to youth in the Hackensack community and surrounding areas.

A major contributing factor to the success of Hackensack Crew is funding by donations and sponsorships to make sure the sport is accessible to families in our area. Our athletes' only expense is any team gear they choose to purchase.
